We have positions available on an exciting stop-motion short film production which has an approximate start date of March 2022. 

 

The project titled “Two Black Boys in Paradise” is a 6 minute stop-motion adaptation of Dean Atta’s poem of the same name. The film deals with themes of racism and homophobia but is also a joyous story which celebrates Black and LGBTQIA+ pride. The story takes place in two contrasting worlds and will be our most technically challenging work to date - it includes up to nineteen puppets, water animation and sets which will be approx 3m square. 

 

We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds, encouraging people who belong to underrepresented communities and anyone who shares a personal affinity to the themes explored in this film to apply.

Please note: 

 

This is a non commercial short film and every effort has been made to offer our crew the best rates possible. In the interest of transparency, we’d like to make it clear that One6th crew members (director, producer, art director) will be earning significantly less than the rates shown below. This decision has been made so that we can distribute the maximum amount of our budget fairly between our collaborators. Whilst we hope to book crew members for as long as possible, we are open to negotiating short term contracts with freelancers who may only be available on a limited basis

 

We are looking for diverse and talented creatives to apply for the following roles:

Model Makers

£110-120 per day 

 

Technically proficient with experience in set construction, prop making and painting. 

 

With two contrasting sets to build, these roles would suit creatives who are confident in their ability to adapt to different aesthetics / environments. Taking place across urban and natural settings, the painted style on this film is a particularly important aspect of our aesthetic and will be a key area of consideration. You’ll work closely with our director, art director and animators to discover creative ways of bringing our designs to life and transform them into sets which are to be our most ambitious to date. 

 

These roles will be based in Ancoats, Manchester although it may be possible for some props to be made remotely. From us you can expect a supportive team who are solution focused, who will provide a positive working environment and who will look out for your wellbeing throughout production. 

 

Puppet Fabricators 

£110-120 per day.

 

With nineteen puppets to create, we have positions available for skilled puppet makers / fabricators. Tasks will include sanding resin faces, padding and shaping foam bodies, seaming silicone hands and creating high quality costumes for each unique character. There is also the possibility that we’ll need to create moulds from our character sculpts. Please note that we don’t necessarily expect candidates to possess skills in all the above areas and are open to booking multiple people for each stage of the puppet build. 

 

It is possible that some of these roles can be carried out remotely within the UK. You’ll work closely with our director, art director and animators to discover creative ways of bringing our designs to life and transform them into puppets which meet the technical and artistic needs of the story. Supervising Director Of Photography

£14 per hr (200 hrs)

 

We are looking for an experienced DOP to work closely with our director / DOP in an advisory and on set capacity. The allocated hours will be spread over the course of a twenty week shoot and therefor would suit someone who lives locally to Manchester and can work flexible hours. 

 

Experience lighting for green screen, urban and natural scenes would be ideal with previous knowledge of stop motion lighting preferable. Our sets will be approximately 3m2 with a number of challenging elements to advise on including lighting stop motion water and liaising with our visual effects team to discuss their requirements for each shot. In order to minimise post production costs, it is our intention to capture as much of the film in camera and therefor we are looking for someone who is confident of problem solving on set.
