SETTING THE SCENE
EXT. CITY STREET – NIGHT
6PM on a frosty winters night, piles of snow are on the pavement and warm breath hangs in the cold air.
A homeless person (DAVID) and his dog sit outside an old convenience store. HOT DRINKS and SNACKS are advertised on illuminated signs above the shop but the shutters are down - The shop is shut.
Crowds of people rush by in silhouette. In the distance, a construction crane dominates the skyline.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, DAVID sits unnoticed behind a paper cup.
A gust of wind picks up and blows the cup a short distance.
The dog (mostly under blanket) follows the cup with his eyes but doesn’t flinch. We see that he’s in poor health with patches of fur missing on his head. A familiar hand reaches into view and picks up the cup, moving it back to its original place.
The last of the crowd passes by and the two are alone together.
DAVID takes off his wooly hat and places it on the dog’s head - An unseen act of kindness.
‘WAWWA’ enters frame and stops beside DAVID. She gives DAVID a hat and sits down beside him.

"For every item purchased from the 1+1 range,
another will be donated to someone less fortunate"
Mood boards were used to explore costumes in varying colours and textures before the final designs were sent to puppet fabricator, Diane Dwyer, who expertly replicated the costumes
at a scale of 1:6.
CUT OUT ANIMATION
We used a mix of cut out animation and digital 2D to create the passing crowd. The silhouettes were created digitally and then fed into our cutting machine to create a series of walking poses for the replacement animation process.
